DEBONAIR BEAGLE

ABOUT THE BREED

We get a lot of questions about the beagle breed in general so I have added this information page about the beagle.

First, since I've got your attention, I'll use this time to educate you if you are new to owning a dog or just undecided about the breed. There is no such thing as the perfect breed. All breeds have good and bad traits but with  over 150   AKC reconized breeds there is probably a perfect breed for you.

AKC's   breeds fall into 7 groups.    SPORTING-  HOUND-  WORKING-  TERRIER-  TOY-  NON-SPORTING-HERDING-   MISC. CLASS-

Beagles fall in the hound class.  The hound group breeds are the Afghan,Bloodhound,Foxhound,Greyhound and Dachshund. Dogs in the group follow prey by sight or scent. The beagle is often considered the ultimate pet for a young boy or girl. Beagles are a sturdy, loyal, fun loving breed with a life expectancy of around 15 years. Perfect for families. They will tolerate the rough play of  young children . The beagle makes an excellent all around family pet which will enjoy outside activities. Beagles fall into two categories for comformation (showing), the 13" and 15". 13" beagles are 13" at the withers and under and a 15" beagle is a beagle 13-15" tall. Anything over 15" is to tall to be shown. Beagles usually fall between 11"thru 16" in height. I personally like a nice beagle between the 12 1/2 to 13 1/2 size.

CITY RAISED

Since we are the home of the "City Raised " beagle I thought I would clarify that a little.   Most beagle breeders keep packs of beagles for either hunting or many beagles for show. Puppies are raised in kennels. Our puppies are family raised inside. It doesn't mean that your beagle won't bark but there is a difference between a beagle bark and a hunting "bay".  We strive for the perfect beagle type by raising our puppies from parents with desirable traits. Parents that are well behaved, healthy,  family pets in a smaller 13" tri color. Our puppies  make great companion pet or conformation.
