We are a small hobby breeder specializing in beagles only. We feel this lets us keep it a family affair while accomplishing our goals. My philosophy is simple. I breed to what I interpret the AKC standard to be. I focus on type never compromising this for color or size. I am looking for carbon copies of the parents or at least the best pieces. (since no dog is perfect) I also feel every breeder should be a representitive for their breed : teaching others and guiding newcomers.
We have over 20 years breeding experience, 10 years in the pet industry and many friendships with other experienced breeders and trainers.We devote much of our time to the breed. We have worked very hard to have a bloodline we are proud of. Most have many Champions in their direct pedigree and we produce many show quality puppies but this is not our first priority. We keep our show quality beagles as pets first and foremost and if they win in the ring when we do go to the occasional show then thats great also. We are looking for the best pet homes for our babies so please do not ask for as show prospect or a puppy to breed. If we have a show/breed prospect then we will work with my coowners Kari or Michelle or stay here with us. I have seen to many breeders bloodlines destroyed by trusting other breeders and will not ruin what we have worked so hard for. Here at Debonair we do not cut corners . We carefully plan for every new addition. We are thinking of today as well as the future. Yes,we will be here to offer guidance today,tommorow and always. I enjoy all of the card and e-mails about the joy your new family member has brought you. Knowledge comes by experience and we are always learning something new. Show versus Hunting Lines
Most beagle breeders keep packs of beagles for hunting. Only dogs with the strongest hunting instincs and the loudest voices are kept for their lines and while I am not saying their is anything bad with hunting " to do so would deny their heritage " but offspring from such parents would be more of the same like dogs. (Puppies that would want to escape from the yard to hunt, to bay at other family pets). This is implanted from their mom if she is a hunting dog or if hunting dogs are kept by the breeder. Hunting dogs can be useful in breeding if done properly. Many of the 13" dogs are from hunting lines since these dogs were bred smaller for hunting on foot. Combining small compact type with nice looking show type can produce a smaller type with beautiful looks. It takes patients and a nack for putting the pieces together right.
We are working to create this type of beagle with desirable traits, healthy, and well behaved.
The power of properly socialized puppies comes from trial and error and this requires plenty of experience. Our Beagle puppies are raised inside . We have learned the steps to having a properly socialized puppy. By socialized we are not meaning just kid/ dog friendly beacause their in the household together. Puppies are given stimulation from they moment they are born and challenges as they mature. They are put into different situations so their mind is able to connect. They are exposed to odd sounds and surfaces so they can face all of the challenges of a new home. Puppies are not placed as soon as mom starts to nip at the puppies. This is actually a very important time in a puppies adjustment and when they are place at this very early age then they have not been taught to be submissive and where they belong in a pack. This could mean more frustration and training classes for you. Early socialization is the difference between a good dog or a " Great Dog". Continued socialization and training will result in the family member you will love for years to come.
